Ministry of Industry and Trade deploys tasks to ensure electricity supply for the 2026 - 2030 period
On January 29, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized an online conference on implementing tasks and solutions to ensure power supply in 2026 and the 2027–2030 period. Comrade Le Manh Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade, presided over the conference at the Central bridge point. Attendees at Thai Nguyen Province bridge point included representatives of the leadership of the Department of Industry and Trade along with relevant departments, boards, branches and units.

Overview of the Conference at Thai Nguyen bridge point

At the Conference, leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade thoroughly grasped the content of Directive No. 01/CT-TTg dated January 16, 2026 of the Prime Minister regarding the implementation of tasks and solutions to ensure sufficient electricity supply for production, business and daily life of the People during the peak period of 2026 and the 2027-2030 period.

Delegates focused on assessing the power supply situation in 2025, forecasting power demand in 2026 and the 2027–2030 period. They also discussed and proposed solutions to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power system, meeting socio-economic development requirements amidst continuously increasing power needs.

Leaders of groups and corporations in the energy sector, including EVN, PVN, TKV, Dong Bac Corporation and representatives of localities, reported on energy security plans for 2026 as well as the implementation progress of key energy projects.

In 2025, Thai Nguyen province was supplied with electricity from 6 220kV substations with a total installed capacity of 3,125 MVA. The whole province currently has 42 110kV transmission lines with a total length of 601.3 km; in which, some lines have experienced full load and local overload situations, with the highest level reaching 109%.

Thai Nguyen Power Company manages 21 110kV substations with 46 transformers, reaching a total installed capacity of 2,434 MVA. For the 2027-2030 period, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) expects to implement investment in 10 transmission line and 110kV substation projects, 5 transmission line and 220kV substation projects and Thai Nguyen 500kV substation within the province.

To ensure safe and stable power supply, the Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with departments, branches and investors to focus on accelerating the progress of projects under Power Development Plan VIII and the Provincial Planning; simultaneously increasing investment in renovation and development of the power grid, minimizing local overload situations and ensuring stable power supply for industrial parks and key economic projects.

Concluding the Conference, Comrade Le Manh Hung, Acting Minister of Industry and Trade, emphasized the key role of ensuring energy security for socio-economic development. Facing major fluctuations in energy supply and demand, the Acting Minister required the construction of appropriate management scenarios; in which the electricity sector must be "one step ahead”, ensuring sufficient electricity for enterprise production activities and the People's lives. The Ministry of Industry and Trade was assigned to direct affiliated units to build and perfect the legal policy system on investment in power transmission projects; continue advising on mechanisms and policies for power sector development; and simultaneously review, adjust and accelerate the progress of projects, building a management system for projects under the adjusted Power Development Plan VIII. Besides, units must strengthen maintenance at power plants and load systems, proactively prepare spare equipment and coordinate closely with Vietnam Electricity to update and balance loads, ensuring power needs for production and daily life of the People.
