Thai Nguyen: Gross retail sales of consumer goods and services rise 21.1% in first eight months
During the first eight months of 2026, trade and service activities in the province continued to grow. Gross retail sales of consumer goods and services were estimated at VND 77.6 trillion, up 21.1% year over year.

Of this total, retail sales of goods were estimated at VND 54,635.3 billion, accounting for 70.4% of gross retail sales of consumer goods and services and rising 21.2% year over year; revenue from accommodation and food services reached VND 7,533.2 billion, up 26.5%; travel service revenue reached VND 187.3 billion, up 24.3%; and other service revenue reached VND 15,266 billion, up 18.5%.
Notably, all 12 categories of retail goods and services recorded year-over-year revenue growth. Some posted strong gains, including fuel products, up 52.8%, and repair services for automobiles, motorcycles, mopeds, and other motor vehicles, up 44%. In addition, wood and construction materials rose 30.4%, while food products grew 13.1% year over year.

In August 2026 alone, gross retail sales of consumer goods and services in the province were estimated at VND 10.1 trillion, up 2.6% from the previous month and 26.7% year over year. Of this total, retail sales of goods reached VND 7,070.9 billion, up 2.3% from the previous month and 25.2% year over year; revenue from accommodation and food services reached VND 1,018 billion, up 8% from the previous month and 41% year over year; travel service revenue reached VND 32.7 billion, up 0.9% from the previous month and 37.1% year over year; and other service revenue reached VND 2,020.7 billion, up 1.1% from the previous month and 25.5% year over year.
During the month, several categories of retail goods and services also posted significant year-over-year gains: fuel sales revenue, 73%; repair services for automobiles, motorcycles, mopeds, and other motor vehicles, 50%; wood and construction materials, 43.9%; other goods, 37.7%; household appliances, tools, and equipment, 32.8%; and food products, 10.6%.
These results were supported by consumer stimulus programs, value-added tax reduction policies implemented in accordance with regulations, and efforts by enterprises, producers, and other businesses to accelerate digital transformation and diversify online sales channels. These factors helped expand market reach, optimize supply chains, and promote the consumption of goods and services.
