On the evening of September 26, at Thai Nguyen Stadium, the Provincial People's Committee held the opening ceremony of the 10th Thai Nguyen Provincial Sports Games in 2026.

Attending the opening ceremony were Comrade Hoang Dao Cuong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Lieutenant General La Cong Phuong, Member of the Party Central Executive Committee and Political Commissar of Military Region 1; Comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Member of the Party Central Executive Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Comrade Nguyen The Manh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; former provincial leaders; members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee; leaders of the Provincial People's Council, Provincial People's Committee, Fatherland Front Committee and Provincial Delegation of National Assembly Deputies; representatives of relevant departments, boards, sectors and localities; and a large number of athletes, coaches, referees and residents across the province. The Games were also attended by delegates from Hanoi and the provinces of Lang Son, Lao Cai and Cao Bang.

Delivering the opening remarks, Comrade Nguyen The Manh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that physical training and sports are an important part of national construction and development, contributing to improving people's health and fostering well-rounded human development. In recent years, the province's sports movement has continued to grow, with 2,017 sports clubs. High-performance sports have continued to strengthen Thai Nguyen's standing: at the 9th National Sports Games in 2022, the Thai Nguyen sports delegation won 59 medals, including 18 gold medals, ranking first among mountainous provinces and 14th out of 65 participating delegations.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed that the Games provide an opportunity to evaluate the results of the sports movement in the 2022-2026 period, identify and select promising athletes to strengthen the talent pool for high-performance sports, and continue making physical exercise a regular part of people's daily lives.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested athletes to compete in a spirit of solidarity, honesty and sportsmanship; referees to officiate fairly, objectively and accurately; and the Organizing Committee to ensure adequate technical arrangements, facilities, security and safety for the Games.

The highlight of the opening ceremony was the military parade and mass procession featuring 34 contingents, together with the ceremony of carrying and lighting the traditional flame from ATK Dinh Hoa Special National Relic Site. This was followed by the mass artistic performance “Thai Nguyen Aspirations - Shining with Sports” in 3 chapters, showcasing cultural values, the broad appeal of sports and the strong aspiration for progress shared by the Party organization, authorities and people of all ethnic groups in Thai Nguyen Province; the program concluded with a combined high- and low-altitude fireworks display.

The 10th Thai Nguyen Provincial Sports Games feature 19 sports and are being held from March to October 2026, with athletes from the armed forces, Thai Nguyen University, communes, wards, agencies, units and businesses across the province. The Games help promote regular physical exercise among residents while selecting athletes to participate in the 10th National Sports Games.
