Lang Co bridge area in Phu Luong commune deeply flooded by heavy rain on July 9, affecting local travel

Due to the effects of a low-pressure trough crossing the Northern region combined with upper-level wind convergence, on July 9 Thai Nguyen Province experienced moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with locally very heavy rain. Rainfall was generally 10 - 70mm, with some areas recording very high rainfall such as Binh Thanh with 183 mm, Phu Dinh with 181 mm, and Minh Tien with 170 mm. According to initial statistics, the rain and floods left 1 person missing, a child identified as H.H.K (born 2014, residing in Dong Phu hamlet, Phu Dinh commune). Functional forces and local authorities are urgently organizing a search.

The disaster also affected 9 houses due to cut-slope landslides, including 3 houses in Phu Dinh commune, 4 houses in Dai Phuc commune, and 2 houses in Phu Xuyen commune. About 105 hectares of rice and rice seedlings were locally flooded; 2 hectares of aquaculture area were flooded and overflowed; 200 chickens died or were swept away. In addition, landslides occurred on the fill slopes and cut slopes of some national highways and inter-hamlet roads, affecting local travel. Total preliminary damage is estimated at approximately VND 1.2 billion.

In response to the heavy rain, the Provincial People's Committee issued Official Telegram No. 03/CD-UBND dated July 5, 2026 on proactively responding to rain and floods, and Document No. 8498/UBND-CNN&XD dated July 9, 2026 on proactively responding to heavy rain, floods, inundation, flash floods, landslides, whirlwinds, lightning, and hail. The Department of Agriculture and Environment also issued documents directing localities to implement disaster prevention and control measures in a coordinated manner.

Local authorities have promptly inspected and directed response and disaster damage recovery efforts, proactively mobilizing on-site forces to help residents. At the same time, they have strictly maintained duty shifts, closely monitored weather developments, promptly relayed warning bulletins to residents so they can take precautions, and compiled and reported damage in accordance with regulations.

According to forecasts, heavy rain in the province will continue to develop in a complex manner. Residents should continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and warning bulletins, and limit travel through deeply flooded areas, areas with fast-flowing water, and areas at risk of landslides to ensure safety. Localities will continue to review and implement response measures, urgently overcome the consequences of the natural disaster, and update damage information in accordance with regulations.
