Institute for Research, Training and Elderly Health Care was established as Vietnam enters a period of rapid population aging, placing increasing demands on elderly healthcare. Under its development direction, the Institute focuses on 3 main pillars: scientific research on geriatrics and the aging process; training high-quality human resources in geriatrics, nursing, rehabilitation, nutrition and elderly care; and developing comprehensive healthcare services.
The Institute also aims to promote information technology applications and digital transformation in elderly healthcare, gradually build electronic health records, and use remote monitoring devices and artificial intelligence to aggregate and analyze data and provide early warning of health risks. The solutions are being implemented to help healthcare workers, families and older people connect more conveniently, particularly in remote, isolated and disadvantaged areas.

The Institute was established by taking over the facilities and premises of Thai Nguyen Provincial Traditional Medicine Hospital; it aims to develop into an integrated institution for research, training, practice and application of traditional medicine, rehabilitation and psychology in elderly healthcare.
The establishment of the Institute helps strengthen research, training and elderly healthcare service capacity in Thai Nguyen and the northern midland and mountainous region, while expanding cooperation with domestic and international healthcare facilities, experts and partners in geriatrics.
