Thai Nguyen enhances the effectiveness of cooperation with South Korean and Chinese partners
In recent years, South Korean and Chinese investors have become increasingly important partners in Thai Nguyen's industrial development and international economic integration. Through specific investment projects, the province is gradually establishing large-scale production chains, creating jobs, boosting exports, facilitating technology transfer and expanding cooperation, thereby contributing to the effective achievement of its growth targets.

Stepping up efforts to attract investment from major economies
As it pursues development, Thai Nguyen views foreign investment attraction as a process of selecting investors with strong capabilities, technology, market reach and long-term development strategies aligned with the province's priorities. Accordingly, South Korea and China have been identified as two of the key markets and partners in Thai Nguyen's investment promotion efforts. Both economies play important roles in global production and supply networks, particularly in electronics, processing and manufacturing, energy, new materials and high technology - sectors in which the province is prioritizing investment attraction.

A notable shift in Thai Nguyen's investment promotion activities in recent years has been its move away from simply inviting investors toward proactively identifying and approaching the right partners in the right sectors and supporting them throughout their projects' life cycles. The province actively studies international capital flow trends and assesses the expansion needs of businesses already operating locally. It also organizes working visits, conferences, roundtable discussions and direct meetings with business communities in key markets. These activities enable the province to communicate information on planning, available land, industrial park infrastructure, human resources, incentive policies and development priorities directly to potential investors.
In particular, Thai Nguyen is placing increasing emphasis on on-site investment promotion. A project that operates successfully not only creates value for the locality but also serves as persuasive evidence for prospective investors. Indeed, the success of South Korean and Chinese businesses already operating in the province has generated positive spillover effects and helped build confidence among international businesses in Thai Nguyen's investment environment.
South Korea develops an ecosystem of electronics and supporting industries
In investment cooperation with South Korea, Samsung stands out as an example of the effectiveness of the strategy to attract multinational corporations with strong technological capabilities and the ability to lead supply chains. Samsung's high-tech complex in Thai Nguyen, located in Yen Binh Industrial Park, is one of the province's largest foreign direct investment (FDI) projects. It has created jobs for tens of thousands of workers and helped establish Thai Nguyen as one of the smartphone manufacturing hubs in Samsung's global production network.
Cooperation between Thai Nguyen and Samsung is also expanding into more advanced areas. In April 2026, provincial leaders met with Samsung Electro-Mechanics Vietnam regarding the implementation of a new project in Yen Binh Industrial Park aimed at producing advanced electronic circuit boards for robots, self-driving cars and other high-tech electronic devices.

Alongside its expansion of manufacturing capacity, Samsung is increasingly shifting its activities in Thai Nguyen toward workforce training and technology development. In August 2026, Samsung Vietnam joined in inaugurating the Samsung Innovation Campus High-Tech Talent Development Center at Thai Nguyen University. This initiative opens up a new avenue of cooperation between FDI enterprises and educational institutions, helping prepare the workforce for future high-tech industries.
Beyond Samsung, an increasing number of South Korean businesses are choosing Thai Nguyen as a location for investment, manufacturing and business expansion. They include Dongwha and Hansol Electronics, as well as enterprises operating in supporting industries, electronics, materials and components, such as Dongsung Vina, Yousung Vina, KET Vina, HSC Tech, KC Vina, JSJ Vina and Doosun Vietnam. The growing presence of South Korean businesses has helped create a closely interconnected FDI business community and gradually establish an ecosystem of electronics manufacturing and supporting industries in Thai Nguyen.
From major electronics manufacturers to supporting-industry enterprises, South Korean investment is creating linkages across the production, component supply, assembly and export chain. It not only provides additional resources for industrial development but also expands employment opportunities, improves technical skills and strengthens the ability of local businesses and workers to participate in international supply chains.
China expands cooperation in high technology and energy
Alongside South Korean enterprises, Chinese enterprises are becoming increasingly prominent in Thai Nguyen's investment landscape. A notable example is Trina Solar Group, which operates in renewable energy and photovoltaic technology.

In 2021, Trina Solar Group began implementing the Energy Development Plant Project in Yen Binh Industrial Park, with an investment of USD 203 million. The project, which specializes in manufacturing solar cells and solar modules, commenced operations after a relatively short implementation period.
Notably, investor confidence has grown out of the province's sustained support. Once its initial projects were operating steadily, the group continued investing in the Trina Solar Wafer Project to manufacture monocrystalline silicon ingots and wafers, before expanding further into the photovoltaic sector in Thai Nguyen. These projects have created jobs for thousands of workers while introducing photovoltaic manufacturing technology and materials for clean energy into Thai Nguyen's industrial production system. As existing investors continue to increase their capital and expand production, the value of the province's investment environment is demonstrated by their actual business and production results.
In addition to Trina Solar Group, Thai Nguyen is home to many Chinese enterprises in electronics, technology and supporting industries, including DBG Technology Vietnam, RQ Technology Electronics Vietnam, Sunny Opotech Vietnam, Huayu Precision Technology Vietnam and Huali Vietnam. Their presence continues to channel Chinese investment into high technology, smart-device manufacturing, new materials, energy and supporting industries.
Supporting businesses throughout their project life cycles
Behind every investment decision is a sustained effort by local authorities to help major projects get off the ground quickly, operate steadily and continue expanding. Thai Nguyen remains committed to a proactive, professional approach to investor support, placing businesses and investors at the center of its services. Relevant agencies are required to strengthen coordination, ensure openness and transparency, and shorten administrative processing times. They also guide businesses from the initial stages of site surveys and access to available land, technical infrastructure, human resources and investment policies.
The province is promoting its “green lane” mechanism for processing investment applications, along with administrative procedure reform, online public services and the application of digital technologies, to reduce time and costs and create the most favorable conditions possible for businesses within the law. At the same time, dialogue between provincial leaders and businesses is maintained regularly. The “Morning Tea with Entrepreneurs” program has become a channel for direct exchanges between local authorities and the business community to identify difficulties and find ways to resolve them.

Thai Nguyen's efforts to promote investment, support businesses and work alongside them are yielding tangible results in attracting FDI. As of the end of August 2026, total registered FDI capital exceeded USD 8 billion, placing Thai Nguyen 2nd nationwide in FDI attraction at that time.
Behind the investment figures are gains in manufacturing capacity, exports, employment and the industrial ecosystem, with increasingly significant contributions from South Korean and Chinese enterprises. This provides a foundation for Thai Nguyen to continue improving the quality of incoming FDI through a selective approach that prioritizes high technology, clean technology, high added value and deeper participation in regional and global supply chains.
