In a jubilant atmosphere marking the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnam’s Sports Sector (March 27, 1946 – March 27, 2026), on March 28, Phu Luong Commune People’s Committee organized the Opening Ceremony of the 1st Sports Festival 2026 under the theme “Phu Luong Sports – Aspirations to Reach New Heights”. This was a major community sporting event, attracting broad participation from officials, athletes and residents across the commune.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, the leadership of Phu Luong Commune People’s Committee emphasized that the 1st Sports Festival was held at a particularly significant moment, following the reorganization under the two-tier local government model. The Festival serves as an occasion to demonstrate solidarity, celebrate the spirit of athletic training and contribute to enhancing the physical health and spiritual well-being of the people, while promoting the movement “All People exercise following the example of the Great Uncle Ho”.

Over the years, the sports movement in Phu Luong Commune has grown continuously, becoming a cherished feature of community cultural life. Approximately 40% of residents exercise on a regular basis and 30% of households engage in regular physical training - both figures exceeding the provincial average. The commune has established and effectively maintained 19 sports clubs across various disciplines, including Vovinam, table tennis, Taekwondo, yoga… Each year, the locality organizes the Olympic Running Day for Public Health and sustains more than 30 community sports tournaments in disciplines such as table tennis, badminton, soft volleyball, swimming, track and field… During the 2021–2025 period, the commune participated in 54 provincial-level sports competitions and won a total of 213 prizes of various categories.

Alongside the development of community sports, the locality has also prioritized investment in facilities for training and competition. Currently, the commune has a multipurpose gymnasium covering more than 2,500 m², 3 large-scale stadiums, 4 artificial-turf football pitches, 60 soft volleyball courts, 10 badminton courts, 14 pickleball courts and a network of cultural houses equipped with sports training equipment.

Within the framework of the Festival, athletes competed across 8 sports disciplines held over a period of several months, through which outstanding athletes were identified for selection to the provincial sports teams.

On this occasion, the Chairman of Phu Luong Commune People’s Committee presented Certificates of Merit to 13 collectives and 10 individuals in recognition of their outstanding achievements and active contributions to the development of the local sports movement.

The 1st Sports Festival of Phu Luong Commune 2026 is not only an occasion to assess the results of the community sports movement but also serves to promote the spirit of health-consciousness, foster a wholesome cultural lifestyle and provide impetus for the continued and vigorous development of sports in the locality in the coming time.
