Jet Ski and flyboard performances on Nui Coc Lake attract large crowds of local residents and visitors

On May 16, Nui Coc Lake became the stage for Jet Ski, flyboard, hydroflight board, and inflatable boat performances as part of the opening activities of Thai Nguyen Tourism Season 2026. Beyond offering visitors a new experience, the event also demonstrated the vitality of a water sports community that is gradually taking shape and developing in Thai Nguyen.

Amid the vast expanse of Nui Coc Lake, the roar of engines blended with the cheers of visitors, creating an atmosphere full of excitement. High-speed Jet Skis, impressive flyboard tricks, and dynamic surfing performances transformed the normally tranquil lake into a lively arena. Sharp turns, rapid acceleration, and skillful water displays captivated spectators, many of whom stopped to record memorable moments or cheer for the performers. Few people know that behind these thrilling performances is the result of years of dedication by a group of individuals who share a passion for water sports.

The Thai Nguyen water sports enthusiasts group was established in 2016. However, it has become particularly active over the past five years, attracting nearly 50 members of different ages, ranging from young people born in 2000 to members over 50 years old. What unites them is not their profession or age, but their love for water and the desire to challenge their own limits. On weekends, instead of relaxing or gathering at cafés, many members arrive at the lake early to inspect equipment, prepare vehicles, practice operating skills, and assist one another in handling technical issues.

Dynamic water sports performances bringing an exciting atmosphere to the lake

As one of the key figures connecting the water sports community in Thai Nguyen, Mr. Doan Thanh Hai shared that most members discovered the sport through chance experiences. After participating in exchange activities with enthusiasts in other localities, they recognized the favorable conditions of Nui Coc Lake for developing water sports and proactively invested in equipment, learned technical skills, and formed a community group.

According to Mr. Hai, the impressive performances seen by visitors are the result of serious training and continuous learning. Participants need not only physical fitness and quick decision-making skills but also training and certification to operate watercraft in accordance with regulations. Many members have already obtained certificates for operating boats and watercraft and are now working to complete the registration paperwork for establishing an official club.

Through exchanges and networking activities, the group has gradually built connections with water sports communities in many other provinces and cities. During this year’s tourism season opening program, in addition to local participants from Thai Nguyen, several friendly clubs also joined the performances, making the event larger and more attractive.

Among the group’s outstanding members is Mr. Chu Dang Khoa from Gia Sang Ward, who previously competed in the Jet Ski event at the SEA Games. His journey began unexpectedly after trying Jet Skiing at the beach in 2023. The speed, excitement, and adrenaline of the sport quickly captured his interest, leading him to invest in equipment and pursue regular training.

Although he has not yet achieved major accomplishments at the regional level, participating in the SEA Games remains a significant milestone for the young athlete. He hopes to continue challenging himself in larger competitions while inspiring more people to take up water sports, encouraging young people to develop their skills and push beyond their limits.

However, pursuing water sports is far from easy. The discipline requires considerable investment in time, technical expertise, and financial resources. Purchasing equipment, maintaining watercraft, and carrying out repairs all demand significant effort. Mr. Nguyen Van Bac from Gia Sang Ward, a member since 2018, noted that technical malfunctions are among the greatest challenges. As specialized repair services are not yet available locally, many members must learn independently through online resources and community support to repair equipment and overcome technical issues.

Beyond the excitement and entertainment value, water sports also require participants to develop emergency response, rescue, and water safety skills. According to Mr. Bac, in addition to maintaining good physical health, participants must know how to handle risks and assist others in unexpected situations on the water.

Amid the green landscape of Nui Coc Lake, the waves carry the passion, solidarity, and enthusiasm of Thai Nguyen’s water sports community

Perhaps it is these skills that have enabled many members of the group to become an effective support force during major storms and floods in Thai Nguyen. During flooding caused by Typhoons Yagi and Matmo, the group’s inflatable boats and specialized watercraft were mobilized to reach residents stranded in isolated areas.

Mr. Nguyen Khanh Quynh, an officer of Thai Nguyen Province Temporary Detention Center, still vividly remembers the long rescue missions carried out in strong currents. On several occasions, the group prepared their own equipment, transported boats, and brought rescue gear into deeply flooded residential areas. One of the experiences that moved him most was helping residents in Residential Group No. 9, Quyet Thang Ward, who had been isolated for many days and faced food shortages.

Across the vast blue waters of Nui Coc Lake, waves continue to spread outward after each burst of speed. Behind every spray of white water is the story of people united by a shared passion for rivers and lakes, quietly nurturing their interests, honing their skills, and contributing to the community. Through these waves, a new vitality is being awakened on the lake, enriching local tourism products not only through speed and excitement, but also through solidarity, compassion, and a strong sense of responsibility toward their homeland in the Tea Land.
