Opening the Red Dao art preservation program in Cho Don
On the afternoon of December 5, at Ban Cuon 1 and Ban Cuon 2 hamlets, Cho Don commune, Thai Nguyen province (formerly under Ngoc Phai commune, Cho Don district, Bac Kan province), the Museum of the Cultures of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups coordinated with the Party Committee and People's Committee of Cho Don commune to organize the Opening Ceremony of the program to build a model for preserving and promoting the art of decorative pattern decoration on costumes and Pao Dung singing of Red Dao ethnic group. This is an activity within the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in 2025.

The Opening Ceremony was attended by Ms. To Thi Thu Trang, Director of the Museum of the Cultures of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups; Mr. Nguyen Duc Hiep, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Cho Don commune, along with representatives of local departments and mass organizations. A large number of artisans, trainees of the Red Dao ethnic group and people of two Ban Cuon hamlets also attended and responded to the program.

Speaking at the program, the representative of the Organizing Committee affirmed that the art of embroidering patterns on costumes and Pao Dung singing is a unique cultural heritage of the Red Dao people, needing to be preserved parallel with contemporary life to contribute to preserving identity and strengthening community cohesion. The representative of Cho Don commune administration also emphasized the spirit of coordination and support for the model to be deployed effectively, thereby creating conditions to restore traditional crafts and opening up opportunities for livelihood, tourism and local cultural development.
Within the framework of the program, a teaching class is organized with the participation of 10 typical artisans (05 Pao Dung singing artisans, 05 embroidery artisans) and 40 Red Dao trainees. The class takes place over 10 days, focusing on guiding traditional embroidery techniques, pattern layout on costumes, along with skills in singing, responding and performing Pao Dung melodies. Parallel to teaching activities, documentation work is emphasized to record images, footage and information for long-term storage, creating a source of documents for research and propaganda.

The program is expected to contribute to restoring and spreading the characteristic cultural values of the Red Dao people, while contributing to the sustainable development of ethnic minority areas in the new period.
