Transport infrastructure (15/08/2016)

Thai Nguyen’s transport system is a mixture of roads, waterways and railways, distributed reasonably with the aim to meet the basic demand on transportation for the economic and social development and the public livings.

+ Roadway :The total length of provincial roads is about 4,815.4 km ( excluding roads through hamlets and paddy fields). It features 5 highways with a total length of 238.7 km, 14 provincial roads with a total length of 310.7km, 140 km of urban roads and 894 km of district roads and 3,232 km of commune roads .

The Five highway routes include: 30km of new National Highway No 3, 80.5 km of the old National Highway No 3, 44.7 km of National Highway No 1B , 57.6 km of National Highway No 37 , and 30.3 km of Highway No 17. All the routes meet the grade-IV mountainous road standard and above, with 100% of roads being surfaced with asphalt. In addition, the Ho Chi Minh Highway’s section running through Thai Nguyen province, with 32 km in length is being planned to construct and Thai Nguyen- Cho Moi ( Bac Kan) expressway is being under the construction.

+ Provincial roads : consist of 14 routes with a total length of 310.7 km, satisfied the grade-V mountainous road standards or higher, reaching 97.7 % of the asphalt roads ( 307.2 km / 314.2 km ) . The district road routes under the approved planning are upgraded to the provincial roads, accounted for 2/9 routes.

+ Urban Roads : The total length of urban roads is 140 km, constructed for the areas within Thai Nguyen City and Song Cong city. In general, the urban roads have been concreted to facilitate the transporation of travellers and vehicles.

+The district roads: The total length of district is 894 km , of which  68 km  is cement concrete, 15.2 km  is concrete asphalt, 556 km is asphalt, 121 km is gravel road, and  79.8 km is dirt road. The entire distrist roads have reached to the class-B rural road standards

+ Commune roads: The commnue roads’s total lenghth is 3,232 km, of which 1,565km of cement concrete road, 13,4 km of concrete asphalt road, 118 kilometers of asphal road, 297 km of  gravel roads, and 1226 km of dirt roads. The entire road has met the Class-B rural road standard or higher, apart from that, some other routes are still not classifed.In fact, people still have great difficulties in travelling, especially in the mountainous areas.

+ Railways: In Thai Nguyen province, there are 3 railway lines with a total length of 136.7 km, of which: 75km of Hanoi -  Thai Nguyen route,  mainly serving  the transportation goods and passengers, 57 km of Tuyen Kep - Luu Xa for the  transportation of goods,  39 km of Quan Trieu – Nui Hong for the  transportation  goods. The internal railway system within  the Iron and Steel industrial zone is about 38,2 km, aiming to meet the need of transportation of Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Company.

+ Waterways: The waterways’s operational total length is 430 km, consisting of 2 main waterways connecting Thai Nguyen to other provinces: 161 km -long of Hai Phong and Da Phuc route,  211 kilometers-long of Da Phuc and Hon Gai route; and 2  inner-province waterway routes: 16km of Thai Nguyen- Phu Binh route and 40km of Thai Nguyen-Cho Moi route.

Overall, the Thai Nguyen transport system is relatively comprehensive in the term of both modes and distribution network

- Power supply

Positioned in the Northern power grid, Thai Nguyen’s power grid is relatively comprehensive. The entire Thai Nguyen disticsts benefit from the national power network, in which Thai Nguyen city, Song Cong city, other town and districts are supported with completed power grid, meeting the needs of living and production. The aims of the power network development plan for next few years focuses on the completion of the power supply network to serve the living and production needs, and with special supporting policies, on the provision of electricity to all households in all communes.

-Information and Communications

Currently, in Thai Nguyen province, there are 2 telephone service providers including VNPT- Thai Nguyen and Viettel- Thai Nguyen branch; 3 internet service providers, namely VNPT- Thai Nguyen, Vietel- Thai Nguyen branch, and FPT-Thai Nguyen branch; 6 mobile service providers, i.e. VNPT- Thai Nguyen branch (known as VinaPhone). Viettel- Thai Nguyen branch, MobilePhone-Thai Nguyen branch, Vinamobile, Sfone, and Gmobile, and 4 television service providers: VNPT-Thai Nguyen, Viettel- Thai Nguyen branch, FPT-Thai Nguyen branch, and Thai Nguyen cable television.

At the present, the telecommunications providers in Thai Nguyen province have put 1132 base transceiver stations( BTS) into operation , basically covering all villages and population clusters, meeting all the needs of voice services and basic data transfer. Simultaneously, it ensures the communication of executive committees and local government agencies, flood and stom prevention activities, search and rescue effort and meets the increasing communication demand of people, business and organizations in the province.

Fiber-optic cable network is widely deployed across the province to all the communes. The specialized data transmission network provides 53 ministries and departments with the most popular services, consisting of television conference system; VPN, WAN, e-mail, Internet access, web and data transmission. In addition, other units in the province leverage the specialized data transmission network to deploy specialized business systems, such as one-door system, record management service, staff profile management system, and portal.

Mobile phone services continue to be stable and focus on individual customers. By the end of the year, the total number of mobile subscribers is estimated to reach 1,077,550 subscribers (including 994,198  pre-paid subscribers, and 83,352 postpaid subscribers). This number shows a slight decrease compared to the same period of last year.

The Internet service continues to expand with the growth of  subscribers mainly from the city and district centers. In first 6 months of 2016, it is esmiated that the province has 58,484 internet subscribers (excluding 3G subscribers), increased by 27% over the same period of last year, including 48,713 ADSL subscribers, 18,859 FTTH subscribers, 11 076 CATV subscribers, and 151 leased line subscribers. Total number of Internet agents in the province is 364 and there are 45 public Internet access points in public libraries and communes’ post offices.

Cable and Internet television services have met the needs of users, in accordance with the government’s policies of the digital television transition. Accordingly, IPTV, in the first 6 months, has attracted the estimated number of 30,000 subscribers thanks to good quality, stability, and many supporting programs and utilities.

In general, Thai Nguyen information and communications system developed rapidly and widely, better met the growing demand for information and communication of the public.
