Dinh Hoa is a mountainous district, located in the northwest of Thai Nguyen Province. It is also known for a special national relic called Dinh Hoa safety zone.
Geographically, Dinh Hoa borders Tuyen Quang province to the west, Bac Kan province to the north and the north-east, Dai Tu district and Phu Luong district to the south-east. Its municipal district lies on Cho Chu town

Dinh Hoa district includes Cho Chu town and the following communes: Bảo Cường, Bảo Linh, Bình Thành, Bình Yên, Bộc Nhiêu, Điềm Mặc, Định Biên, Đồng Thịnh, Kim Phượng,Kim Sơn, Lam Vỹ, Linh Thông, Phú Đình, Phú Tiến, Phúc Chu, Phượng Tiến, Quy Kỳ, Sơn Phú, Tân Dương, Tân Thịnh,Thanh Định, Trung Hội, Trung Lương.
